The first thing that you should do is to make a list of the things in your life. Include the people that you have around you, and then include things like your job, your support systems, and the things that you do for fun. You want to look at the ways that your life is good for you.

Then, in order to try to beat depression, try to find the elements in your life that are not making you happy. If you made your list and were able to find that you have people surrounding you, a good job, and that you are satisfied with the way that the rest of your life has treated you, chances are good that you will also be able to find some things on your list that aren't as good as the others. This might be a job that doesn't make you happy, a problem with a member of your family, or a feeling that you haven't met your goals as far as education or employment is concerned. These are going to be the problem points that you are going to want to identify.

Once you have these points identified, you should make a smaller list – with the things in your life that are causing you to be unhappy. Next to each of the items, write down one way that you can change those things. These are small steps, and you should take these first, in order to begin to beat depression. For instance, if one of the items that makes you unhappy is that you don't have the right education, take a small step by starting to look online for some great degree programs. If one of your problem areas is that you are having issues with a friend, call that friend and ask to sit down to talk.

If you are able to begin to take these small steps, you'll find that the larger steps are even easier to take. After that, you can begin to solve your problems, one by one, and you should be able to beat depression at the same time!
